First post here and I have been to other places first with no luck. I am not an experienced modder by any means but have had a few projects that have worked out. Anyway I am attempting to try and make something that is likely not going to work but I am more interested in the process than the final product.
The project is to take a cheap USB digitising mini turntable I have and to strip the USB system out and then merge it with a record player I found in a charity shop for £3. I know that I sound stupid and the final product is not going to be anything great but I can't afford to buy a new pt01 Scratch or Vestax HandyTrax and then the other accessories for scratching right now and I am not sure if I will use it much.
So basically I have two cheap devices, one is a vintage record player (the player was part of a combo hifi cassette player and I have removed the whole thing from the other unwanted parts and it came off as I imagined and was basically a thin unit encased in a hinged lid) with larger platter and two speed motor and better needle. I got it so cheap I presumed it was broken but it played records and the AM FM radio worked too.
The second player is a very crappy cheap EZCAP USB thing I got a long time ago to digitise some records. The only thing that started this 'project' was when I got a Mixfader and started to play around with scratching using an iPad. I saw the portable devices being able to connect with the Mixfader app through USB and I thought I'd plug in the EZCAP to the iPad using the connection kit and the app recognised it and it played the audio through one of the decks.
I thought that was pretty cool for a cheap thing (it isn't probably as cool as I think as I know little about USB turntables DVS etc) and I started to play with it but the platter is too small 4" at best and any movement titled the record off the edge.
I have searched the web for mentions of the EZCAP and any mods etc and there's only one YouTube video with someone scratching on it but they have to use an amp and speakers etc and no mention of Mixfader. Anyway so far I have been working on taking the parts out of the two and then I am at the point where I am ready to attempt to add the digital USB PCB to the now stripped down slim and simple vintage player.
The other forum didn't get the idea I don't think and just told me how bad the Numark pt01 and the Vestax HandyTrax are as scratch decks which didn't help. I have been photographing every step I've made, the PCB numbers, the connections etc so I can show the idea and connections I will attempt but it is basically adding the USB circuit board from the mini EZCAP which is connected to the tonearm by three cables just as the tonearm is on the record player. The only thing that is different is the two speed motor which is not on the USB system but I presume that the power supply is capable of handling that.
Anyway I hope this makes sense and I will upload a few images of the two turntables and the circuits and the connections needed. I have gotten to the stage where I have been able to get the motor moving very very slowly and audio output through the lineout with lots of static. I am not able to explain the technical terms and I have probably already broken the pair of players but I am hoping that I may get lucky and find the idea of wiring a EZCAP USB preamp circuit thing to a vintage record player and making a scratch deck with Mixfader app connection for £3 is possible and you guys have the knowledge that can help me finish the project.
Anyway I will add pictures soon as I can't get them to work on this tablet but I understand if this is a pointless project and I am being stupid attempting this just need to know why and what is the stupid parts!
